India squad for Sri Lanka T20I and ODI

BCCI has announced the team India squad for the home series against Sri Lanka on Tuesday.

As expected they made Hardik Pandya the skipper of the T2Ois series, which will start from January 03, 2023. However, the latest development in terms of leaderships is the appointment of Suryakumar Yadav as the vice-captain of team India for the T20I series.

He is the current no.1 batter in T20I Rankings and the new mr.360 of world cricket.

Rohit Sharma will back as Captain for ODI series 

Veteran players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and KL Rahul will not be a part of T20 series. Rohit, who suffered a thumb injury during the Indian team’s tour of Bangladesh, will take the lead back in the ODI series.

“The All-India Senior Selection Committee has picked India’s squads for the upcoming Mastercard Sri Lanka Tour of India to be held in January 2023. The tour comprises three T20Is and as many ODIs,” BCCI stated.

Pandya will therefore serve as captain for two consecutive T20I series. Pandya was hinted at as the captain in a broadcaster promo a few days prior, but the BCCI hadn’t made an official announcement at that time.

Rishabh Pant will not be available for T20 series also. Ishan Kishan will be the key wicketkeeper for India in the T20I series.

Out of form Shikhar Dhawan also left out from the ODI series. While Virat Kohli, KL Rahul will make a comeback for the ODI series. Hardik Pandya remain Rohit’s deputy for the ODI series.

The Indian team after their 2-0 Test series victory over Bangladesh ended 2022 on a high. It is now time to assemble, regroup and work towards mission 2023. The all-important ODI (One day International) World Cup that will take place in India. After the 2022 T20 World Cup, the men in blue have a serious task at their hands to prepare for the World Cup and lift the coveted World Cup trophy after 12 years.

As the new year rings in, Sri Lanka will visit India for three T20Is and three ODIs. The first match of the series will take place on January 3, 2023.
