Bracewell’s heroic 140 went in vain as India beat NZ in a high-scoring thriller, India go 1-0 up in 3-match series.

Shubman Gill smashed a coming-of-age double hundred to power India to 349 for eight in the first ODI against New Zealand in Hyderabad. Gill oozed class in his special 208 off 149 balls and batted through the innings with not much support from the other end.

Skipper Rohit Sharma’s 34 off 38 was the second-best score of the innings. The 23-year-old, who was touted as the next big thing in the Indian cricket ever since he displayed his talent in the 2018 U-19 World Cup, hammered 19 fours and nine sixes, six of them coming after his 150. The double century, his maiden, was also his second successive three-digit score.

After India opted to bat, it was a good contest between the openers and New Zealand pacers as the hosts reached 52 for no loss in the first 10 overs.

Usually, a wicket silences the Indian crowd but following Rohit’s dismissal, the crowd welcomed superstar Virat Kohli with a massive roar. Suryakumar Yadav (31) joined Gill and did what he does best — increase the tempo of the innings.

After Surya’s departure, Gill shared a 74-run stand with Hardik Pandya (28), who got out in a rather bizarre fashion. After he missed a cut shot completely off Santer, the bails came off and New Zealand appealed for a bowled dismissal.

Latham’s gloves could have dislodged the bails but he himself wasn’t sure. The replays were not conclusive but the third umpire ruled in favor of the visitors. As India cruised towards 300, Gill reached 150 with a six over deep mid-wicket off Bracewell.

After that milestone, he went berserk and reached the 200 with three huge sixes off Ferguson in the 49th over. His power hitting meant India hammered 57 runs off the last five overs.

Chasing 349 New Zealand: Bracewell’s heroics 140 runs went vain

Finn Allen and Devon Conway are in the middle to begin this steep 350 chase for New Zealand. Mohammed Shami started for the side. Mohammed Siraj Clinched 4 wickets in the 1st ODI, and Fin Allen, and Mitchell Santner both took a few runs for the side. Michael Bracewell hits a classic Ton 140 off 78 against the Indian Side.

As the Indian Bowlers restricted them at the score of 337, and the Kiwis lost to India by 12 runs. At the Start, the Kiwis were 120/6 the Backbone of the side arises as Michael Bracewell but the knock got vain as the tails man of India made the match for the side.

In the death Overs Hardik Pandya and Shardul Thakur got India back in the game. Also on the 3rd ball of the last over, Thakur Hits Bracewell on the pads and clinched the win for the side.
