Ishan Kishan (75 off 41) and Suryakumar Yadav (66 off 31) scored brilliant half-centuries as Mumbai Indians (MI) chased down a target of 215 against Punjab Kings (PBKS). MI won the game by six wickets in 18.5 overs.

In match number 46 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali on Wednesday, May 3, Punjab were sent into bat after losing the toss. Prabhsimran Singh (9) was the first to go, caught behind off Arshad Khan. Shikhar Dhawan scored 30 off 20. He was eventually stumped off Piyush Chawla’s bowling. The leg-spinner also cleaned up Matthew Short (27 off 26), foxing him with a googly.

Liam Livingstone (82 not out off 42) and Jitesh Sharma (49 not out off 27) then added 119 runs for the fourth wicket to lift Punjab to an impressive total of 214/3. Livingstone was amazing with his clean hitting, smashing seven fours and four sixes. Sharma continued his good form and clubbed five fours along with two sixes.

Chasing 215, Mumbai Indians lost skipper Rohit Sharma for a duck as he struck a delivery from Rishi Dhawan straight to deep third man. Cameron Green struggled for momentum and fell to Nathan Ellis for 23 off 18 balls. At 54/2 Punjab were in the game.

Kishan and Suryakumar added 116 runs for the third wicket at a blazing pace to completely swing the momentum of the match. Kishan blasted seven fours and four sixes, while Suryakumar struck eight fours and two sixes. After the duo were dismissed within a few deliveries of each other, Tilak Varma (26 not out off 10) and Tim David (19 not out off 10) added an unbroken 38 for the fifth wicket to take Mumbai home. Varma slammed Arshdeep Singh for maximum to bring up the winning runs.

Speaking after the game, Player of the Match Ishan Kishan said, “The wicket was too good for batting, I kept for 20 overs and knew the wicket was good. If it is in my arc, I will go for it. He (Rishi) was swinging the ball, I thought of stepping out as the keeper wasn’t near. The message was to watch the ball and hit.

He added, “Last game we did well and finished in the last over. I try to finish it as soon as possible. I think fitness is very important. We keep on training hard. We also try to work out during the match. Credit goes to mom’s food as it is important to eat well.”
