India skipper Rohit Sharma has confirmed that Yashasvi Jaiswal will open for team India in the 1st Test vs West Indies while Shubman Gill will bat at number 3 in the game.
The 1st Test between India and West Indies will be played from July 12 in Dominica. Rohit Sharma also confirmed that the team will play two spinners in the playing 11.
Rohit Sharma confirmed the development in an interview with journalist Vimal Kumar. Rohit Sharma’s revelation has almost confirmed India’s playing 11. The only spot yet to be confirmed is the wicketkeeper-batter position for which Ishan Kishan and KS Bharat will lock horns.
Bharat was preferred over Kishan for the WTC final and the keeper showed good skills behind the wicket. However, he failed to make an impact with the bat. It will be interesting to see if Rohit Sharma sticks with KS Bharat or give Ishan Kishan a chance to establish himself as a wicketkeeper-batter.
Since Rohit Sharma has confirmed that India will go in with two spinners, both R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja will likely play the game. Mohammed Siraj and Shardul Thakur are also certain to play which leaves Rohit Sharma with an option to either pick Jaydev Unadkat or give Mukesh Kumar his maiden Test cap.
